— NOTES FROM AV NACKAWIC —
AV Nackawic Mill is excited to welcome members of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists New Brunswick to our site! Situated in the picturesque Saint John Valley, the Nackawic Mill was originally opened in 1970. Today, the mill is a member of the Aditya Birla Group based in India. Our mandate is to produce specialty pulp products to service the textile industry. The Nackawic mill produces dissolving grade pulp, among other by products.
We invite you to join us to review our dissolving grade pulp process and plant. This will include an in-person discussion followed by a site tour of one of three key areas. Due to the nature and noise level in the plant, tour groups will be limited to 12 per tour.
AV Nackawic is an industrial facility. Minimum personal protective equipment includes CSA approved steel toed footwear, pants and long sleeves. Hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection and respirators will be provided. Our facility is located at 103 Pinder Rd, Nackawic, NB E6G 1W4. There is plenty of parking on site. When you arrive, please report to security and they will direct you to our meeting room.
Agenda:
1:00 PM – Meet & Greet, Aditya Birla Background and Process Overview.
1:30 PM – Tours
After tours regroup for any questions or discussion.
Chemical Plant (Tour by John Astle)

Fiber-line: (Tour by Gaurav Kaila & Adam Marion)
The Fiber-line converts wood chips to Brown Pulp by treating them with steam and white liquor. The stock is then washed, dried and packed into pulp sheets which are then shipped to our customers to make consumer products.
Tour will include:

The Steam Plant houses two steam generating boilers that feed and power the mill. The Steam Plant is part of the liquor loop that converts spent liquor from the Fiberline into usable liquor to continue cooking chips. This also includes a Recausticizing Department with a lime kiln, and an extensive Water Treatment Department with a 170’ diameter clarifier, gravity and sand filters, and demineralized.
Tour will include:
